*I do Pilates pretty much every week day morning and try to do the stretching each evening. I use DVDs where they are broken down in to 10 minute segments. I get up at 4:30 and work until about 6, so this is the best option for me at this time. One of the tapes I do is Denise Austin. Here is some of what she says about Pilates:
By now, everyone's heard of the exercise craze called Pilates. Named after Joseph Pilates, who developed the technique, this type of exercise is especially great because it works for almost anybody, say the experts at the American Association of Retired Persons. Why? The moves were originally designed to help injured ballet dancers get back on their feet — so they're effective but gentle.
Just a few of the perks of Pilates are better posture, greater strength, and more flexibility. You'll tighten up all of your muscles but lengthen them with stretching, for a longer, leaner look. But the best news is that with the abundance of home workout videos and equipment available (including mine!), you don't have to pay any of those expensive one-on-one trainer fees to tap into the trend. So what are you waiting for? Try something new! Whatever your fitness level, you'll find Pilates is a perfect fit!
