Alot of these recipes are for those members who are doing the Flex Point Progrm...but don't despair. Remember, we can have whole grain pasta once a day! To make these recipes (or any other recipe on this site) a Core recipe, simply refer to your Core food list and omit or substitute any item that isn't Core, in that particular recipe.
For example...substitute whole grain pasta of any type, for regular pasta. Use egg substitute in place of whole eggs (eventhough they are allowed on core...why not make it lighter?), use fat free milk or evaporated milk, use spray margerine if possible, use brown rice in place of white rice, fat free cheese in place of reduced fat cheese... You get the idea
You'll be suprised how good these recipes taste with whole grain pasta! I made a delicious lasagne last week, using whole grain noodles...my family never even noticed and loved it! Once you put sauce and cheese on a pasta, it's hard to tell what color it is!
If you're still not sure about brown spaghetti...try one of the new blends. Barilla has a pasta that is high in protien and Omega 3 fatty acids but low in fat, called "Barilla Plus"...it's great and looks like regular spaghetti, and when you figure the points, it's the same points value as whole grain, with even more protein!
So, just play with your food...lol...and you'll find a whole new world of great recipes out there!
Good luck...Colette
