That sounds high, but I think it goes off your weight, height, bone structure, activity level, etc.

Without knowing those, it's hard to say if that is a good number for you.

Nice to see you, btw!  Hope we get to see more of you more often!

I just went to the website I linked above just for comparison and this is what I got with your info ...

RESULTS
Maintenance: 2500 Calories/day
Fat Loss Range: 2528 - 2528 Calories/day

I don't understand how they can be sooo different?! I mean that's almost 500 calories different!

Anyway - your original question was how can I eat more calories than I am now and lose weight when I am gaining at 1500? Right?

IMHO it's because you're starving your body. So what you do eat, your body holds and stores it, not knowing when/if it's going to be fed again.  When you eat the right foods, believe it or not they work together to nourish your body and you really do lose weight! Your body knows it's going to be fed and it won't store the foods you do eat. I had the same question when I first started WW. "I'm supposed to eat all this AND lose weight??? This is more than I normally eat!"  Well, guess what? When I eat the right foods, in the right portions, and in good timeframes, I lost weight!

The 3 biggest changes I made was:
  1. Eating 5 fruits and/or veggies a day
  2. Drinking lots of water (40+ oz a day)
  3. Portion/Serving sizes
There really were days I had to almost force myself to eat! LOL  And I did lose an average of 1.5 lbs a week.

(This of course was when I was diligently following the program. I'm working my way back into it again now!)

I hope I've been some help!

Cassi is right about the starvation thing.

Another thing I heard about knowing how much water to drink per person (through a Christian weight loss program that my mom lost her weight on and kept it off) was that everyone needs to drink at least eight 8oz glasses a day plus 8 extra oz a day per every 25 lbs you want to lose. I will try to double check that with her.

I've never heard that before, Shelly! Hmmm ... I know when I DO drink all the water I should, it helps, but I could see that helping more! Thanks for the idea. thumbsup.gif

I've had trouble getting my water in throughout the cold days. I know come summer, I won't have a problem, but one trick I have found just this past week that helps me get all my water in - there are 11 oz bottles of water that are small in height but shaped rather round! LOL For some reason it doesn't seem like so much water. Here's a link so you can see what I'm talking about http://www.icemountainwater.com/ They are called Aquapods and the shape is Orbtastic ! LOL They're rather cute and I can down 4 or 5 of these a day without even thinking about it ... I don't keep buying them - I bought a couple of 8 packs and I just keep re-filling them. For me, they go down faster than the 16.9 oz bottles. Dumb, I know, but it works for me!

Hey...as far as I'm concerned anyway to get the water in that works for you, go for it.

WW says that 1/3 of your water can come from other drinks that are sugar free and caffine free. So things like Diet Sprite (or Sprite Zero as they call it now) can count as can Caffine Free Diet Coke, caffine free herbal teas, etc.

Shaw...you're not that far from my start weight on WW. I started at 306 lbs...and in fact I weighed 326 at my heaviest..I'm 5' 1" too.

Honestly, and I know that I'm a WW evangelist, but the WW program is so easy because we don't have to worry about counting calories, fats, etc...the points program does it for us.

That does sound like alot of calories, but I know that when I started WW I started with 32 points per day! Now, I get 29 points per day. The program has a way to figure your points based upon body weight, height, age, activity level....it's very throurough. I hope that you'll try it. You'll be suprised at how much food you get to eat! My friend Kyle got 42 points per week when he started....he was a BIG, BIG MARINE! The more we lose, the lower our daily points target.

I believe that Cassi and Chelle are both right. Our bodies are designed (especially women's) to conserve body fat to protect our vital organs, in case of famine. That is why we carry so much fat in our stomachs...that's where the vital organs are contained. When we don't get enough calories, our bodies signal an alert and actually hold on to the fat! The idea is to eat enough calories to keep that from happening, but to come in under the threshold that will make us gain weight. It's a fine balance but the doctors and scientists at Weight Watchers have figured out a fabulous program...actually...two fabulous programs Core and Flex.

If you need more info, please contact me. We can figure this out for you...and maybe come up with a Week One booklet so you can have the basics of the program without having to join.

Blessings, and you're going to reach your goal! Coletteheart.gif

Here's the "formula" to figure out how many points a person needs per day ...

1. Are you:
    Female? ................. Score 2
    Male?  .................... Score 8
Score ___________

2. How old are you:
   17-26 ................. Score 4
    27-37 ................ Score 3
    38-47 ................ Score 2
    48-58 ................ Score 1
    Over 58 ............. Score 0
Score ___________

3. What do you weigh?
Enter the first 2 digits of your weight.
For example, if you weigh 175, enter 17. If you weigh less than 100 pounds, enter the first digit of your weight, i.e. for 98, enter 9
Score ___________

4. How tall are you?
    Under 5'1" ............ Score 0
    5'1" to 5'10" ......... Score 1
    Over 5'10" .......... Score 2
Score ___________

5. Do you spend most of your day:
    Sitting down? ...........Score 0
(e.g. as a receptionist, bus driver, cab driver)
Occasionally sitting, but mainly standing? .........Score 2
(e.g. sales person, housewife, cook, teacher)
Walking most of the day? ............................ Score 4
        (e.g. waiter, mailman)
Doing physically hard work most of the time? .... Score 6
        (e.g. nurse, gardner, construction worker)
Score ___________

The total is your daily Points Target ____________
