Portion Question

First - I wasn't sure where to post this question.

Secondly -  I usually measure out my portions (1 cup of this, 1/4 cup of that) but when it gets to oz's I am just dumbfounded. confused Does anyone know how many "cups" (I know it is less then one cup) 3 oz of lean ground beef is?  (I ask because I am trying to start cooking one dinner rather then two and my bf doesn't like chicken or turkey! I figure every once in awhile I can eat what he eats with only a few modifications.)

Thanks for any help!

See if this site will help:  http://www.metric-conversions.org/volume/ounces-to-cups.htm

Hope that is what you are looking for!  Good luck!

It's hard to figure, isn't it?

That's why I broke down and bought a scale at my WW meeting. I have to say I LOVE it and use it all the time!

I would "guess" that is 8 oz is a cup, then just under 1/3 cup would be 3 oz?

Sorry I'm not much help! Like I said, that's why I bought the scale! LOL My blonde brain didn't want to work that hard

*edited to add. I weighed out 3 oz of grapes and it came to a little over 1/3 cup.
Hope that helps!

Thank you guys!

Chelle - that was a perfect website

Cassi - you were right - it is just over a third of a cup

I still may need to buy a scalle soon! :)

I'm here to tell ya, you wouldn't regret it. It cuts down on the guess work and it's much quicker and of course more accurate!

Meridith, great question! You might be able to find a nice food scale at any discount store, or you can get the WW scale...I love it.

I posted a category called "Portion Primer", it's on the front page but here is a link PORTION PRIMER

A 3 ounce serving of cooked lean ground beef is about the size of deck of cards. The portion primer section has visual examples of what certain portions should look like, that's helpful when you're eating out and don't have a scale or measuring cup with you! biggrin So, you can even print this out and keep it in your purse to help you judge portions (that's what I do..it helps!)

Good luck...blessings,

Colette

I have to agree - I usually want the portions to be larger as well but ever since I started this I have been shocked that a portion of something is usually a good size of food!
